As major retailers and online giants prepare their annual sales for the consumer rush in the holiday season, shoppers are also encouraged to trade with local businesses.

The Indiana House of Representatives Republican Caucus encourages state residents to keep local businesses in mind, a press release reported. Nov. 28 will serve as Small Business Saturday, an annual event focused local restaurants, shops and businesses. Those businesses provide jobs and support local schools and teams. Small businesses have also taken a big hit in the past year.

Supporting local businesses also has a big impact on the community as $0.67 out of every $1 stays in the community, the press release reported. To locate local businesses to support for Small Business Saturday and beyond, visit IndianaGrown.org, an online resource for consumers to find Indiana-produced products. IndianaOriginals.com is another directory and social media can be a useful tool to locate local businesses.
