Newport County ranked 1st in state for resident earnings in 2017


Newport County ranked 1st among counties in Rhode Island by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Newport County residents was an inflation-adjusted $35,475 per year. Newport County had 35,421 households in 2017, with a population of 83,204.

Providence County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Rhode Island, with a median income of only $26,930 per year. That was $8,545 less than the median income in Newport County at the time. Providence County had 238,465 households in 2017 and a population of 633,704.
